YAG capsulotomy in cases of secondary cataracts

In some cases, after a cataract operation a secondary cataract (posterior capsule opacification) may occur. This means that a part of the capsule behind the new lens becomes cloudy. With the YAG laser, we can remove this cloudiness in a few minutes without an operation.

During a cataract operation, the lens is removed, leaving the back of the lens capsule intact and allowing the artificial lens to be inserted better. Over time, this back part of the capsule may become cloudy, leading to a recurrence of visual deterioration in the eye which was operated upon – posterior capsule opacification. With the YAG laser, the back of the lens capsule is cut through, allowing clear vision once more.
