Minimal-invasive glaucoma surgery
With the minimal-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), the intraocular pressure which is the most important risk factor of glaucoma is lowered.
These are safe, reliable and effective procedures which can be performed by means of an extremely small clear cornea incision.
Glaukos iStent inject™
The bypassing of the main cause of the draining blockage site, the trabecular meshwork in the eye, is considered a physiological and logical approach for reducing intraocular pressure. The tiny stents are implanted through the trabecular meshwork in Schlemm’s canal. With a special injector, two stents can be implanted in one step.
Studies show that the iStent inject™ can lead to a reduction of pressure, enabling a testing of the intraocular pressure in patients with minor to moderately severe glaucoma with a reduced amount of or even entirely without medication. For the patients, these new surgical possibilities can lead to a higher quality of life and to less concerns among doctors due to lesser problems caused by eye drops.

Procedure of minimal-invasive glaucoma surgery
Before the operation
You should continue to use all prescribed eye drops up to the operation, unless your eye specialist has advised you otherwise. Before the operation, we will check all medication you are currently taking. It is mandatory that you bring along a list of your current medication to your pre-surgery appointment, where you will also be required to answer questions to any previous illnesses.
During the operation
The iStent inject® procedure is normally performed under local anaesthesia. If you decide to have an iStent inject® inserted within the scope of a cataract operation, we will implant the iStent inject® after cataract removal. You will neither see nor feel the implant.
After the operation
iStent inject® can be implanted in an outpatient procedure; this means that you can return home directly on the day of the operation. Post-surgery, you will receive antibiotics and inflammatory eye drops. You will also be given an appointment for a check-up on the day after the operation
Recovery time is normally short, but we recommend that you do not work for a few days. You should also refrain from doing any strenuous activities such as sports, lifting heavy loads or other exhausting physical exercise which would increase your eye pressure (IOP).
