LASIK Xtra with KXL-System
LASIK Xtra is an accelerated cross-linking procedure which is performed in connection with a LASIK or PRK operation. More than 80 000 operations to date underline its success.
When is LASIK Xtra possible?
The LASIK Xtra procedure can be used for nearly all eye surgery performed via LASIK or PRK. Among other things, this includes the treatment of long-sightedness, short-sightedness or astigmatisms, provided that the cornea is suitable.
Why should I choose LASIK Xtra?
In LASIK operations, the creation of the flap affects the biomechanics of the cornea. As a consequence, the result of the operation may recede over time. The accelerated cross-linking procedure, however, used in LASIK Xtra provides the cornea with additional biomechanical stability which can prevent a refractive regression.
What do KXL system and VibeX Xtra stand for?
Simply put, the KXL system is a UV lamp. Ultraviolet (UV) light is also emitted by the sun. In this case, the UV radiation of the KXL system is used to activate the VibeX Xtra, a vitamin B2 solution.
When is LASIK Xtra recommended?
Younger patients in particular with severe short-sightedness and a still soft cornea can benefit from LASIK Xtra. The professional application of this method after a LASIK eye operation can reduce the risk of consequential damages even further.
What is the advantage of LASIK Xtra?
LASIK Xtra provides the cornea with new and additional stability. This has a long-term supportive effect on the result of the LASIK treatment.
What does LASIK Xtra cost?
The exact costs can only be established after examining your individual case. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Surgical procedure:
To begin with, a regular LASIK operation will be performed with the excimer laser. After the LASIK operation, the created flap will remain opened. VibeX Xtra is applied to the laser-treated cornea surface. After 60 seconds, the area is rinsed and the flap is closed. Finally, the area will be exposed to UVA radiation to stabilise the cornea.
